He or she may or may not be moving TO be homeless, it may be that they are going to be homeless wherever they are currently ANYWAY so going to Denver to be BETTER OFF-homeless. That's what people do coming to San Francisco. Get here from wherever they've got thrown out or evicted of, just so they won't be on the streets wherever they're AT. There's a difference. Nobody goes to any city TO be homeless. They just leave where they're AT for whatever reason and know they'll have not enough money for extravagant rents where they're going. Me, every time I'd pass through Denver on my way across the continent, I'd stop of at the Denver International Hostel on 16th but it's not there anymore. It's long since gone due to health code violations up the ying and the yang."Moving" to be homeless. Sounds like you got a lot of shit with you.
This is kind of good to know, IFFF Denver is the place to go to for JOBS. Probably not. Any large Western city that's considered "liberal" is probably not a good place to go for jobs, especially if you're going to have to be trying to get one from being on the streets, sort of thing. No decent employer offering a decent salary want to hire someone who's sleeping rough or even in the shelters. I've spent a disproportionate part of my life trying that and failing. Even when I had a 6-month shelter bed in a womens' shelter in downtown San Francisco, in the middle of all that Tech-startup stuff. Back when there was more "entry level" in the tech field....actual entry level, not just this BS nonselse these days that CALLS itsel the "entry level."Just moved from Denver....not trolling, but 100% honesty...you are going to need to navigate the shelter system..it's not to hard though...the authorities are really cracking down on encampment, and with the extreme weather a heater or stove would be smart but not advised as lots of fires have been happening in camps...a good way to accidentally get an arson charge ( or hurt yourself or others)
That being said...Denver rescue mission on Park Ave downtown starts lining up for a bed around 5pm and does last call at around 8pm. Keep your possessions close, don't get caught up in all the tweaker drama, and be cool with lights and noise because DRM is a little like jail with no locked doors. ( not knocking jail )
Denver has always been cool to bum for me if you can avoid the bad weather ( spring / summer) . There is a not cool narcotics element there, that can be dangerous, but I would take Denver over LA or SF anyday in that aspect.
Lots of really decent church people and feeds, good day work opportunities, cheap cheap weed. Girls with bad attitudes...my kind of place!
If you have ANY money at all there's a cheap-ish hostel out in Westminster with a bunk-bed-dorm type setting for under $600 a month. Then again I don't think one month is long enough to find a job in Denver anymore. For me, at my age and post-Stroke, that kind of time frame would be far too stressful for me to deal with. So I'm just going to make sure I apply on the Denver Housing LIst when they open if for the TWO DAYS a year they take applications for that thing, and hope for a miracle.I'm moving to denver and I'm going to be homeless anybody have any tips or anything I should know before going.
